When to use it
Core project and corporate vocabulary for any person or group with an interest in how something turns out - employees, customers, investors, the local community. Do not confuse it with the narrower word for someone who owns shares in a company: this one includes everyone affected, whether or not they own anything. It is near-universal in meetings, project plans, and reports, usually in the plural, and has spread into government and education documents too.
